The Position
Skilled Medical has an exciting career opportunity for a Medical Superintendent to commence a permanent position at Joyce Palmer Health Service in Palm Island, Queensland.
This position will involve combined duties as a rural generalist (predominantly general practice and emergency medicine) with the leadership and management responsibilities of the health service.

Health Service
The Joyce Palmer Health Service is an integrated health service, providing both primary medical care through general practice services, a 15-bed hospital with outpatient and emergency facilities, antenatal services and primary health care through a range of community health programs. The client/patient group of approximately 100 people daily is representative of the diverse demographic profile of the Palm Island community and includes child health, elderly, trauma, pre and postnatal, chronic conditions, mental health, sexual and reproductive health clients. The Joyce Palmer Health Service integrated health care team includes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, who support each other’s roles in a trans-cultural health care setting.
The new Palm Island Primary Health Care Centre and Joyce Palmer Health Service will work closely together to ensure provision of comprehensive, seamless care to the people of Palm Island.
The Location
Palm Island is the largest island in the Palm group, situated about 70 kilometres north of Townsville and is home to the largest Aboriginal community in Australia of approximately 4,000 people. It is a tropical Island located on the Great Barrier Reef and can be well suited to candidates looking for a simple and remote life experience yet with easy access to greater amenities on the mainland. Daily flights and ferries run between Palm Island and Townsville/mainland Queensland.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must hold Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).
Rural Generalists with career interests and experience in both medical administration/management, and indigenous health are sought after.
