The Position

Skilled Medical has an exciting career opportunity for a Registrar in General Medicine to commence when available for either a 6 or 12 month fixed term position in New Zealand's, North Island - West Coast. The run is accredited as a training position for specialist qualification for the FRACP for a maximum of two years.  Registrars on this run provide services principally to the medical wards, ICU, Emergency Department and Outpatients Department under the supervision of the Consultant to whom they are attached. The Registrar under the supervision of their Consultant also provides consultation on medical care in other services within the hospital.

Your clinical duties include:

* Day to day clinical management of the team's patients including the admission and clerking of acute admissions, attendance at the consultant ward rounds and routine ward work in conjunction with the house surgeon.

* Participating on the On call roster.

* Conduct Outpatient Clinics Responsible for supervision of stress ECG testing.

* Attend meetings as follows: Medical Services weekly clinical meeting, Radiology review, Clinical Grand Round, Weekly Journal Club

 

Health Service

A large 240 bed hospital offering multidisciplinary services to a population of approximately 120, 000 people.  Senior staff comprises of six Physicians and one Relieving Physician.  There are six Registrars, one Medical/OPHRS Registrar, two Night Cover Relievers, one RDO Reliever and two Relief Registrars. There are six House Officers, two Medical/Psychiatry House Officers and two Medical/OPHRS House Officers.

 

The Location

Located on New Zealand’s west coast, this region is a ideal for outdoor enthusiasts offering rugged and wild coastline, rivers, native forests and mountains.

 

Essential Criteria

Doctors must hold or be eligible for New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) registration via competent authority or comparable health system pathway.
