eMR & eMEDS training is a requirement of this placement. Weekday afternoon shifts: are from 1200-2200h. There are 6 hours overlap with the end of morning shift and 2 hours with the start of night shift. You will however be the senior most doctor in hospital from 1800-2000h and are responsible for the Emergency department during this time. This role is suitable for a PGY4+ doctor with basic ALS skills and ability to sort a busy waiting room out. While not primarily supervising JMOs, your assistance with this is appreciated. There is a JMO on the wards taking care of clinical reviews and for the most part is supervised by the on call specialists and another junior ED based CMO/locum. You will have access to the on call specialists but they will all be on remote call. Typically you would take handover from departing morning staff of any patients who remain in the ED and assist / supervise the junior CMO. Weekend shifts: are either 0800-1800h (solo 0800-1200h) or 1200-2200h (snr. 1800-2000h), the same as weekdays however there are no JMOs to assist or supervise. The ED doctors are responsible for MET calls all weekend (from Friday 1630-Monday 0800h) and ward short calls from 1600h onwards on Saturday and Sunday including HDU/CCU/ICU (level 3 ICU). On weekends there are no supervisors/consultants/registrars in the ED/hospital and any consultation is by phone or on a call in basis. The ward based teams typically perform a brief weekend ward round in the mornings. There is no routine radiology on weekends. This role is suitable for a PGY 4+ doctor with ALS skills with greater confidence and experience in emergency department and general medicine. The workload on weekends and availability of assistance is highly variable. At times we may swap your early and late shifts on weekends depending on skill mix and logistics of getting locums in and out of broken hill but will advise as soon as practical of this need Night shift: is from 1945-0815h (2400-0800h solo in whole hospital and senior for duration of shift). Most appointments are for seven days Monday 1945h – Monday 0815h. You are responsible for the ED, ward calls (including our CCU / HDU), MET calls and occasionally for calls from outlying health services for advice. This role is suited to PGY5+ doctors with previous emergency dept. or general medical experience, who can manage multiple patients simultaneously with limited investigations and comfortable with assessment and management of critical patients independently but with remote support.
