Opening a ‘2nd’ emergency department in our recently refurbished Armitage House. The current emergency department will continue to operate, Each emergency department will have 3 beds and 3 short stay beds with the ability to increase these to 6 and 4 as required during this uncertain phase of healthcare in Victoria.
Armitage ED (ED-A) will be for any patient who screens positive for a risk of infection including COVID-19. By separating this cohort from the main hospital, we are maximising the safety for those within the hospital from risk of infection. Once assessed, if patients in the building are considered to NOT be at risk of COVID-19, they can be re-located to the ED. The ED (ED – B) will continue to function for all patients that screen negative for infection.
During this uncertain time, PPE requirements will be the same for both ED-A and ED-B. In this high level PPE, maximum protection for staff is maintained and you will be free to return home or to other places of work without delay. We are following the department of health guidelines with respect to exposure testing, in the event that we have a COVID-19 +ve patient in our hospital.
