A Metropolitan NT hospital requires a Specialist in General Practice from 29/11/2021 to 28/01/2022.

The role focuses on managing health issues on site as much as possible to avoid unnecessary transfer into the acute care system in Darwin and includes: Managing asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic COVID-19 positive residents in a dedicated red zone, liaising with the CDC team about their ongoing management and planning and assessment of exit criteria parameters. Attending to residents in quarantine and isolation in full PPE to do non COVID related general practice consultations on their balconies and sometimes in their rooms including minor procedures as appropriate. Providing telephone support from home to senior nursing staff on site after hours and when necessary call back attendance after hours to assess residents Arranging transfer into the acute care system when necessary including liaising with local RDH clinical services There is broad range of primary health care issues encountered including mental health issues and the CNR residents are a mix of the repatriated Australians program, NT international arrivals and NT domestic hotspot arrivals. Currently there is a large cohort of Aboriginals from remote communities, because of the NT COVID-19 current outbreak. Mandatory site induction and training in PPE and infection control processes occurs for all new employees and is ongoing. All staff working in the quarantine and isolation zones must be vaccinated for COVID-19 and must undergo COVID-19 testing as proscribed by the NT Chief Health Officer Direction – currently daily saliva PCR and weekly throat/nose PCR testing.
