We have vacancies for Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs) PGY3 and above in the Medical High Dependency Unit (Ward B5b). The hourly rate is $130 per hour negotiable. SRMOs cover the Unit 24/7 with an alternating day / week off / night roster. The day shift is 0800 – 2030 and the night shift is 2000 – 0830.
The patients’ admitting team has overall responsibility for the care of these patients with input from Intensive Care Specialists as clinically indicated. The term description and arrangements for medical care are presented in the attached documents. The position requirements and Responsibilities are detailed below.
Position requirements
Required:
Basic Life Support (airway management: cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(2) Read and understand the Department of Intensive Care Services orientation
Preferred:
Advanced Life Support
Responsibilities and Daily Tasks
Responsibilities
(1) Review all patients in B5b
(2) Assist the primary team in performing tasks for patients in B5b
(3) Assess and manage clinical problems as they arise in patients within B5b and liaise with the team medical registrar (for medical issues) or Intensive Care Postgraduate Fellow Registrar (for critical care issues) as required
(4) Attend and assist at all Code Blue/ALS calls for patients within B5b
Daily tasks:
(1) Full admission and discharge notes for all patients
(2) Shift review with progress notes for patients already / likely to be referred to ICS
(3) Accompany primary teams on their ward rounds
(4) Complete handover of all patients at the commencement of a new shift
(5) Discuss with primary care team, Intensive Care Registrar/Postgraduate Fellow and Nurse Unit Manager (NUM)/Team Leader (TL) regarding potential and confirmed patients for step down to wards.
Responsibility to inform Medical consultant:
(1) Acute admissions into the unit after hours (if medical registrar not already done so)
(2) Acute deterioration of patients within the unit
(3) Significant medical issues
(4) Transfer of patients into ICU
(5) Deaths
Responsibility to inform the ICU team
(1) Acute admissions into the unit
(2) Acute deterioration of patients within the unit
There are also individual weekend / public holiday shifts available from 0800 – 2200 which involves cover of the Respiratory Wards (b5a, B5c and B5d) as well as B5b.
