The Position

Provide expert Psychiatric care and advice to patients attending Mental Health Services (out-patient, in-patient and hospital-in-the-home).

Provide professional leadership in the area of Mental Health within a multidisciplinary environment.

Provide training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care team members.

Undertake clinical responsibilities providing care, liaising with other clinical units and referring referring hospitals, specialists and GP’s, including maintenance of accurate and contemporaneous documentation.

Closely monitor the work of junior and middle grade medical staff on shift, monitoring their history taking, clinical reasoning, decision-making and documentation, response to emergencies and completion of discharge documentation.

Provide day-to-day supervision and training to registrars, junior medical staff and other health care team members

Take overall responsibility for consumers admitted under the psychiatrist and where clinical care is delegated to others for patients under their name

Participate in daily management of consumers including supervision of admissions, transfers and discharges.

Liaise and collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team and, where appropriate, facilitate multidisciplinary team and family meetings, to ensure positive consumer outcomes
