The Position
The role of the Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to directly or indirectly benefit the patients/clients of the Wide Bay Area Health Services. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
• In addition to the key responsibilities listed below, this role will provide such services as may be reasonably directed from time to time by the Professional or Operational Manager.
• Supervise, assess, and teach junior doctors who are Australian Medical Council’s Workplace based Assessment candidates
Position Responsibilities
• Work harmoniously with midwife and medical staff.
• Support the team in a collegial way and accept team decisions.
• Report to and include the clinical director.
• Able to perform advanced laparoscopic and vaginal reconstructive surgery.
• May be required to offer support to the MTOP service provided by Bundaberg Hospital
• Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
• Implement and monitor the organisation’s quality standards, occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs and provide clinical governance in the relevant work area.
• Supervise the day to day activities of any allocated junior medical staff to ensure that appropriate standards of care are maintained and that junior medical staff are trained to adequately fulfill their duties.
• Deliver a standard of clinical care in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology throughout Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS).
• Conduct outpatient clinics throughout the WBHHS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. • Requires participation in an on-call Obstetrics and Gynaecology roster.
• Ongoing commitment to Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-take including involvement in the Clinical Decision Unit (emergency department).
• Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.
• Contribute as required in accreditation programs.
• Be aware and comply with contemporary human resource management policies, procedures and practices, including workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination, employment equity and Queensland Health’s Code of Conduct.
• Ensure and review the quality of patient care by participation / implementation in clinical audit and peer review programs.
• Manage the administrative requirements of patient care including ensuring discharge summaries and medico-legal correspondence in completing with minimal delay.
• Maintain personal knowledge and skills and participate in continuing education. • Provide leadership, supervise, and teach any allocated resident medical staff.
• Teach allocated medical students of University of Queensland and/or James Cook University, diploma and advanced diploma candidates, and specialist trainees and possibly become a training supervisor
