The Position

We are looking for multiple permanent and fixed term, part time and full time Staff Specialists in General Medicine for an exciting position in Tasmania. This position is day work (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. You will be based at Tasmania’s largest hospital and the major referral centre, providing acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services; supporting around 250,000 Tasmanians in the southern region; A major clinical teaching and research site for The University of Tasmania and other institutions; Employing around 3,000 people.

You will:

  • Be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as trainee and IMG supervision and mentoring.
  • Be involved in research and undertake quality improvement activities.
  • Actively support and participate in service development to improve current services and develop new services in the Department of General Medicine.

Health Service

General medicine is the largest inpatient department in the hospital with excellent subspecialty support and opportunities for clinicians to be involved in research, clinical redesign, and quality improvement. Staff specialists are actively involved in the training of basic and advanced physician trainees and the supervision of international medical graduates. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of an evolving department and contribute to positive change in the Tasmanian health system.

The Location

Tasmania has a healthy culture and outdoors lifestyle with breathtaking coastlines, National Parks and award-winning restaurants and bars. Here, you will be encouraged to be your authentic self, to share your wisdom with our emerging generation of medical doctors, and in doing so, find your purpose. In your time off, you can surf in the early mornings and go fly fishing on weekends or take photography classes, write novels, sell preserves at the weekly farmers’ markets, learn to mountain bike. Take part in the community, volunteering and serving on boards. Spouses and children have similar opportunities to thrive in a quieter, safer, more adventurous place. After a hard day at work, you can get on your bike or put on your boots and “tell it to the mountain” in minutes, not hours.
