The Position

We are looking for multiple Emergency Medicine Registrars for Fixed Term Full Time and Part Time appointments for 6, 12, 18, 24 or 36 months, all with the possibility of extension(s).

As an ED registrar you will have unrivalled exposure to “real” Emergency Medicine (including procedures) within a fully supervised department. If you believe “variety is the spice of life” this could be the place for you!

The Campus functions as the regional resource centre for the Southwest region with all major specialties present on site including ICU and CCU/Cath lab. As the only Emergency Department in the town, and being the regional centre for the Southwest, patients present with the entire spectrum of acute medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, gynaecological, and mental health related illnesses. 

Health Service

The hospital has a 24hr specialist led emergency department, a high dependency unit, an intensive care unit, medical and surgical wards, paediatric ward, maternity ward, subacute rehabilittion ward, an acute psychiatric unit, a theatre complex, outpatient areas and has a 190 bed capacity.

The Emergency Department is the largest department in the hospital and the biggest Emergency Department in WA outside of Perth. The Department consists of 39 beds including ED ambulatory care and Short Stay Unit. The Department receives more than 45,000 presentations per year of whom approximately 40% require admission. Case mix, including acuity and activity is highly varied. Patients are younger than many tertiary sites with 25% being children. The department sees the whole spectrum of Emergency Presentations and registrars generally have more opportunity for procedures than in metropolitan tertiary EDs. Emergency Department staff may assist with medical transfers on the Bunbury Rescue Helicopter. ED medical staff include Specialist Emergency Physicians, Senior Medical Practitioners, Registrars, Residents, and Interns. The lifestyle is highly desired, and the regional location means very short commutes to work.

Located on the South Coast of Western Australia, this port town is a picturesque harbour city on the Southwest coast of WA, 175km or two hours' drive from Perth. The area is blessed with spectacular and pristine beaches, abundant opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, on and off-road cycling and world class surfing spots. It is also renowned for its divine cuisine, welcoming locals, and award-winning wines in nearly every direction. Southwest residents have a high sense of community and rate their region as a safe place to live and raise children, with excellent access to services such as health and education contributing to their positive lifestyle and general wellbeing. 

Essential Criteria

  • Must have general registration with AHPRA or be eligible for provisional AHPRA registration via the Competent Authority Pathway. 
  • Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in Emergency Medicine 
  • Ability to provide teaching, supervision and training support. 
  • Demonstrated well developed communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. 
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance within health care 
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural respect framework.
