The Position

We are currently looking for a suitably experienced Clinical Director for a full-time Fixed Term Temporary appointment in Northern Queensland. The Medical Director position is a fixed term temporary appointment of up to 3 years with the opportunity to re-apply for subsequent 3-year appointments.

The North Queensland Kidney Transplant Service (NQKTS) will be dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art kidney transplantation to patients across an expansive catchment area covering five Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) in North Queensland. These encompass the Northwest region of Queensland, Cairns and the Hinterland, Torres Strait Island and Cape York, Mackay, and Townsville.

As a Clinical Director within this pioneering service, your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging in establishing and operating networked services, including outreach clinics spanning the five HHSs in North Queensland.
  • Enhancing access to kidney transplant services for regional, rural, and remote populations in North Queensland, with a particular focus on improving the healthcare journey for First Nations patients.
  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in delivering a contemporary kidney transplant service which is patient-centric.

You will be at the forefront of leading, managing and delivering the provision of kidney transplant services in adherence to the highest standards of the specialty, ethical principles of the profession, and in alignment with the guidelines set by the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) and Queensland Health (QH). This extends to hospital, community, and outreach settings.

Essential Criteria

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with speciality training in Adult Nephrology.
  • Specialist Registration or be eligible for specialist registration with AHPRA.
  • A qualification encompassing advanced management skills is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in Acute Kidney Transplantation as a Consultant Nephrologist with it being highly desirable to have completed a recognised Australian or overseas Kidney Transplantation Fellowship in a Kidney Transplantation Centre.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
  • It is desirable that the candidate hold a Research Higher Degree or other Higher Degree.

The Package

Generous remuneration package value up to $564,048 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $204,206 to $258,910 p.a. (L18-L27)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
  • Attraction and retention incentive allowance (35%-50% base salary)
  • Regional and rural attraction allowance (5% base salary)
  • Motor vehicle allowance between $21,000 and $25,500 p.a.
  • Professional development allowance of $21,500 p.a. + 3.6 weeks p.a. leave

Plus, a Clinical/Medical Managers Allowance will be paid fortnightly. Salary sacrificing options are also available.

Eligible health workers who make the move (interstate or international) may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the Queensland Health Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme (conditions apply).
