The Position
We are currently looking for Senior Resident Medical Officers for multiple permanent positions in ACT. To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 3 + from February 2025
Emergency Medicine SMRO’s work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department. SRMOs can be responsible for patient in care in all areas of the ED – Resuscitation Bays, Fast Track, Acute, Behavioural Assessment, Paediatrics and the Emergency Medicine Unit.
Participation in extra-curricular activities, such as completion of the Emergency Medicine Diploma or completion of an audit, are encouraged and supported. The skills gained in this position form a solid basis for further studies and careers in Emergency Medicine, GP, Rural Medicine, any of the Acute or Critical Care Medical specialties, or indeed most fields!

North Canberra Hospital - Bruce is a 256 bed public hospital providing acute and sub-acute services, with our Emergency Department receiving around 55 thousand presentations per year supporting the ACT and south eastern New South Wales region of Australia.
Canberra Hospital is a 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to the ACT and south eastern New South Wales region of Australia. It is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program. It is one of the busiest EDs in the country!

Essential Criteria
- Be registered or eligible for General registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated clinical competence at post graduate year 3 level.
- Demonstrated ability to pursue both formal and self-directed learning in clinical practice and evidence of developing ability to teach more junior doctors and medical students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
