The Position

We are currently on the look-out for a Medical Oncology - Staff Specialist to join the team of this North Queensland health service on a Permanent Part-time basis (0.8FTE/4 days per week).

This is a great opportunity to join a busy oncology unit already staffed by dedicated medical oncologists, nurses, and allied health professionals. There is an opportunity for the right applicant to take on a leadership role within the team, and further develop the existing oncology service, especially in the area of clinical research. The health service participates in a small number of clinical trials at present and are keen to expand that service with the appointment of another medical oncologist.

Health Service

The Oncology Unit currently has 3 experienced part-time medical oncologists. These provide inpatient ward rounds and daily outpatient clinical services including telehealth to regional hospitals. The day unit is staffed by trained oncology nurses and pharmacists and administers treatments 5 days per week. The health service works closely with the radiation oncology teams both at the private oncology facility nearby and those at the nearby Townsville University Hospital.

Based within a vibrant regional centre in tropical North Queensland, servicing a population of over 180,000. The region has a thriving economy that includes a diverse range of tourism, agriculture, industry, mining, education and health industries. North Queensland provides relaxed and comfortable rural and coastal living opportunities, only an hour flight from Brisbane and a short distance to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef.

Essential Criteria

  • Mandatory possession of a qualification from a registered tertiary institution and Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate is essential.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Medical Oncology.

The Package

Salary Information (L18 – L24, L25 – L27):

Total remuneration value of up to $376,624 (L24) is comprised of: A salary between $163,365 - $189,757 (L18-L24)

Total remuneration value of up to $411,562 (L27) is comprised of: A salary between $195,398 - $207,128 (L25-L27)
