Details

A Northern QLD hospital requires a Senior Medical Officer in General Practice from 20/12/2024 to 14/01/2025.

SHIFTS:

20/12/2024-09/01/2025 SMO ED with AST
Rostered by need. 10-hour shifts (includes weekdays and weekends)
On-call: 1:2 or 1:3

31/12/2024 – 14/01/2025 SMO with AST Anaesthetics
Rostered by need. 10-hour shifts (includes weekdays and weekends)
On-call: 1:2 or 1:3

Training Requirements
• FRACGP/FRACRRM
• Rural experience
• ALS certificate
• DRANZCOG, JCCA, or ACEM AST

Rostering:
Hospital is staffed by 5.5 FTE SMO and 1.0 FTE Medical Superintendent. 2.5 FTE PHO. 1.0 FTE Intern.
Typical roster pattern is
• Monday – Friday:
o WARD – 1 SMO day shift, 1 intern day shift
o ED – 1 SMO day shift, 1 PHO late shift, 1 SMO late shift.
o Afterhours ED SMO is oncall for facility with no doctor on site. There are always two SMO oncall even when on bypass
• Saturday/Sunday/Public Holiday: SMO day shift, 1 PHO day shift – covers ward and ED, SMO on late shift with oncall from 23:00 -07:00.

Services:
28 bed inpatient ward, including 1 antenatal assessment room and 1 birth suite. Usual occupancy is 60-70%, with on average half a dozen long stay stable patients awaiting nursing home placement.
4 bed emergency department with average of 22 presentations in 24 hours. Variable complexity but mostly triaged as category 3-4.
